The number of different types of perennials available has increased more than any
other type of plant in the last twenty-five years. Our offerings of perennials for
sun and shade have grown to over 150 varieties, with new perennials available each
year.
Each year the Perennial Plant Association chooses a plant of the year. This year's
choice is Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola', Golden Variegated Hakone Grass, an intriguing
grass for the shade. Variegated but nearly all yellow, the leaf blades have narrow
green stripes, mostly near the margins. It is grown mainly for its beautiful foliage,
although it does produce reddish-pink seed heads. Tiny, inconspicuous flower spikelets
appear in airy clusters from late summer thru mid-fall. The leaves arch in the same
direction like a golden waterfall creating a cascading habit. It spreads slowly
but is not invasive.

Sedum 'Xenox' - This sedum starts out purplish-green in the spring but then ages

The foliage is unlike any other purple sedum we've grown as it has much more of a
red tone to it. It is somewhat compact growing and the color is most intense when
it is grown under hot and dry conditions.
